My experiences of working in a number of different educational settings have added to the skills acquired through my qualifications and this enables me to bring a very practical, no-nonsense approach to the support and advice I offer to my clients.
I am happy to provide a bespoke interim business management service either to support during long term absence or whilst waiting to recruit a permanent member of staff. Full CFO roles or monthly management reporting can be catered for.
If you are new to the role and the education sector you may feel overwhelmed by all the acronyms, the complexity of the role and just need someone to guide you in the right direction. Having been through it myself I am happy to offer as much or as little support as necessary to get you started. This can be achieved over the phone, via email or via regular visits timed to suit your needs.
In times of reducing budgets it is essential to ensure your resources are used in the best possible way and this includes your staffing. Support staff structures need to be flexible to cope with the ever changing environment and must provide efficient and effective support to the teaching and learning in any school. Advice on possible efficiencies and training needs can be part of a financial review or undertaken as a separate piece of work. The future is all about doing more with less and school business managers need to come up with inventive solutions to common problems.
Ensuring you employ the best possible staff is not always easy. I have many years experience of successful recruitment and I am able to offer support and advice on the recruitment of school business managers, finance and admin staff including suggestions on where and how to advertise, the production of job descriptions and person specifications as well as guidance for the shortlisting and interview processes. I am also happy to be part of an interview panel if required.
I am often asked to speak at conferences and contribute to educational publications on a wide range of subjects from HR, Governance and Finance to Marketing. For more information please contact me
With the current government agenda continuing to encouraging schools to become academies within Multi Academy Trusts there are a growing number of smaller schools looking to work together in partnership. The process of conversion can be daunting with Governors unsure of their new responsibilities and exactly what will be involved not only during conversion process but afterwards. The impact of conversion is mainly felt within the senior leadership team, the chair of governors and in particular in the finance office. Having someone who is able to carry out the necessary financial due diligence and guide you through the entire process will help to ensure things run as smoothly as possible, that workloads are shared and more importantly that all the necessary systems, policies and procedures are in place to ensure compliance moving forward.
I wish to advise all my clients that in accordance with guidance issued on 16.3.20 I have made the decision to work from home as much as possible. Whilst I appreciate schools are currently open as usual I need to reduce the risks of exposure for family members who fall into the vulnerable category. I appreciate your understanding and if you wish to discuss further please do not hesitate to contact me.
In a climate of shrinking budgets efficiency and effective use of resources are key. For more information about efficiency toolkits or help with an efficiency review or staff restructuring please contact me.
